What are NFTs, why is Earth From Another Sun using them, and what is the impact on the environment?
NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), simply put, are digital certificates of ownership, powered by blockchain technology.
NFTs mainly allow for 2 things:
Ownership of digital assets, and the transfer of this ownership.
NFTs are unique, virtual tokens. No two NFTs can be the same, so each NFT is truly unique.
They are created using blockchain technology and stored within digital wallets.
Blockchain technology ensures that every transaction is recorded and safely stored to prevent loss and theft.
The reason is simple: EFAS will include NFTs so players can exchange digital items with each other.
Any item of Epic-level rarity can be turned into an NFT to allow you to trade it freely with other players.
You will be able to give, exchange or sell any of your Epic-rarity items.
For example, if you obtain a new Exo-Suit, you are free to use it for however long you wish before trading it.
We are currently building a marketplace for trading these NFTs.
Acquired a limited-edition item? You can exchange it with another player or even sell it! Demand for this item may increase if more players join the game in the future.
While the NFTs will be created for each of your Epic-rarity items we will hold onto them for you until you decide you want them, you will not have to create a digital wallet unless you want to receive your NFTs (and you will also need to first pass AML and KYC checks as required by regulation).
NFTs are all unique but can be tied to the same item. The GIF above for example represents the Seraphim Exosuit.
Of course, multiple players can possess this suit and its NFT with a different serial number, like a lot of NFT collectibles do.
The Creator NFT however will be truly unique, with the serial number #0, its creator and owner will be credited in the item description.
The impact NFTs have on the environment depends entierly on the blockchain they are minted (created) on.
We will use a "proof-of-stake" blockchain. With such a design the maintenance of the blockchain will not need immense amounts of computing power, like traditional "proof-of-work" blockchains do.
The blockchain we will use will use very little computing power and will not have significant environmental impact.
